Today George Zimmerman appeared in court and apologized for the first time since shooting and killing 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
“I wanted to say I am sorry for the loss of your son,” Zimmerman said in an unusual appeal directly to Martin’s family before he testified. “I thought he was a little bit younger than I was, and I did not know if he was armed or not.”
Moments later the judge set Zimmerman’s bond at $150,000. Now if you are not familiar with how bond works the the defendant only has to pay 10% of the specified bail amount and in Zimmerman’s case that’s$15,000, which in my opinion is on the extremely low side for someone being charged with second degree murder.
Though Zimmerman did apologize today the family of Trayvon Martin still doesn’t think that is enough and are devastated at the fact that Zimmerman may be set free if he can come up with the bond money.
“This was the most disingenuous, insulting thing I’ve ever seen,” said Martin family attorney Natalie Jackson.
