Erykah Badu and Andre 3000 were a pretty epic couple. Both are talented with loyal fan bases, so when the two artists got together, it just seemed like it was supposed to work. Unfortunately, Erykah Badu and Andre 3000didn’t work, and the pair split a little before their son Seven was born. Rumors suggested that the couple couldn’t overcome Andre 3000′s “commitment issues,” but neither artist let the split come in between their friendship. And over the years, the two have remained close friends and continue to raise their son Seven in a peaceful environment. Although Erykah Badu has dated others and been happy with other men besides Andre 3000, like Common, D.O.C. and Jay Electronica; it just always seemed like Erykah never really got over Andre 3000. Even Common recalls that fact as he reveals in his book that Erykah keeps an unusual amount of pictures of 3 Stacks in her house. So unusual it made him uncomfortable while they dated.
But now it all makes sense as Erykah Badu reveals in a recent interview, she got real in a few words about how she feels about Andre 3000 and even admitted that Janelle Monae intimidates her:
When asked about a work of art she would most like to own, a Basquiat painting or Van Gogh piece would be more of a likely answer than the surprise response she came up with. “Andre [3000],” Badu stated
A reasonable wish, right? Andre – besides being the father of her 14-year-old son, Seven- is a talented man who is arguably one of the best rappers in the industry, who is also quite skilled at singing and acting. He is a piece of art indeed.
She also said Monae is one of those women in the industry she admires and even called her “best friend.” But the new artist may not even know that the two share that connection.
“My heroes are Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind and Fire, the Emotions, Chaka Khan and the Doobie Brothers,” she admitted. “And Janelle Monae is keeping me on my A-game — secretly, I feel that I have to go out and crush her. We’re best friends, though: she’ll only find that out by reading this.”
I’m not even mad at Erykah for being so candid about Andre 3000. It definitely did seem like the two had genuine feelings for each other although things didn’t work out. But I have a feeling that Erykah isn’t the only woman who thinks Andre 3000 is a piece of art. Hence, the many groupie tales of praise of his bedroom skills on the Internet.
