While he loved Yeezy’s Late Registration and Graduation solo efforts, Rocky said his fourth LP did not win him over.

“I hate that album. I like a few songs on there. I didn’t like ‘Robocop.’ I liked ‘Heartless.’ I liked ‘I’m not loving you, the way I wanted to.’ And then I liked the other one — wasn’t ‘Paranoid’ on that album? I liked that. I liked that album, I like ‘Amazing.’ That’s four tracks on there already, so maybe I’m contradicting myself but I like those four tracks and the other joints I absolutely hate.” (Power 106)

Despite his personal dislike of the platinum-selling project, A$AP still applauded Ye’s risk-taking.

“I really respect Kanye regardless of if anyone gives a f*ck or not, but I respect him for having the balls to come out with a whole auto-tune album,” Rocky added. “Just like, he was killing it in the rap game and he took time out to be an artist. And I admire that.” (Power 106)

Back in 2010, Terror Squad’s Fat Joe said he also did not get down with 808’s & Heartbreak.

“My favorite rapper is Kanye West and when he did the singing album, I purposely didn’t buy it. I was like, I’m protesting it man, I’m boycotting it. I ain’t with that sh*t. I want the Kanye rapping about his moms, rapping about this sh*t.” (Ozone Magazine)

Despite mixed receptions, the LP went on to sell over 1.6 million copies.

In its first week of sales, 808s & Heartbreak reached the number one spot on Billboard 200, selling 450,145 units in its first week. In the last week of the year, 808s & Heartbreak sold 165,100 copies, jumping from the eleventh spot back up to the number five on the Billboard 200. The album moved up again the following week, selling 70,900 units and landing at number three. On January 27, 2009, 808s & Heartbreak was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, serving as West’s fourth album to ship one million copies in the United States. As of February 2010, it has sold 1.63 million copies in the US, according to Nielsen SoundScan. (Wikipedia)
