Chicago Rapper Johnny Boy Da Prince Shot & Killed

Johnny Boy Da Prince was shot in what is believed to be a case of mistaken identity.

Up-and-coming Chicago native Johnny Boy Da Prince was shot and killed shortly before Wednesday night earlier this week.

According to Chicago Tribune, the rapper, whose real name is Johnny Taylor, was shot several times in the Garfield Park neighborhood and left for dead in an alley. His manager, Dillard Florence, said that he went in for surgery and was expected to recover, but the injuries were too extensive to be fixed.

Florence claims that the shooting was a case of “mistaken identity” and that Johnny had just finished a song called “Just Like You” about senseless killings.

Johnny was scheduled to have a meeting with Atlantic Records, and both Epic and Universal were reportedly interested. Andrew Fechter, an assistant at Atlantic, said that Taylor’s managers contacted him and piqued his interest, calling him a “prospect.”

“I see a lot of emails,” Fechter said. “I listened to it, I liked what I heard, I asked for more. I played it at a meeting and everyone liked it. We were working on a meeting, bringing him in. Get him to meet everyone before a decision is made.”

Johnny’s murder is the latest in a series of gun-related killings in Chicago. Recently, Chief Keef’s stepbrother was shot in the back of his head, while Lil JoJo and JayLoud faced similar fates.
