The plot thickens. This morning, we received reports that 2 Chainz was robbed at gunpoint in San Francisco Sunday afternoon (June 9). Then authorities claimed that a member of the Grammy-nominated rapper’s entourage was actually mugged, and not the Atlanta native. Now, we receive confirmation that it was indeed the Def Jam artist that was the victim.

Credit the confusion to a miscommunication between police spokesman Dennis Toomer and investigators on the scene.

Radio.com reports:

This information conflicts with a report obtained by Radio.com earlier today (June 10), in which police spokesman Dennis Toomer stated that San Francisco police believed 2 Chainz had not been the victim of the robbery; rather, it had been a member of his entourage (“He was not the victim of a robbery,” he said this morning. “He was there, but he wasn’t the victim.”).

Several hours later, when Radio.com placed a follow-up call to SFPD, Toomer told Radio.com that the information had been correct at the time of the original call, but later in the morning, investigators informed him that the victim was actually 2 Chainz.

According to Toomer, the rapper was walking with his entourage in the 800 block of Howard Street at about 4:30 p.m. when they were approached by a suspect carrying a handgun, who fired a gunshot. While most of the group scattered, 2 Chainz reportedly fell to the ground and was approached by the suspect, “who robbed him and fled the scene.”

Toomer said the rapper was robbed of his wallet, which contained credit cards and cash money, as well as a cell phone.

Despite the confirmations, 2 Chainz adamantly denied the entire robbery fiasco on earlier today Twitter. The Hair Weave Killer and company have been uncooperative according to authorities. Further details will be given as they become available.

2 Chainz also took to his Twitter account to clear up the robbery rumors. Check the tweets below.
