Beyoncé’s hit single “Drunk in Love” has had girls — and a few boys, as well — grinding on that surfboard for months now, but did Queen Bey snatch that catchy beat right out of Future’s hands? The Atlanta-based rapper/producer says he didn’t know that Mrs. Carter actually planned to use the melody after he previewed it for her.

During at performance at SXSW last week Future performed a new song called “Good Morning,” which sounded surprisingly like “Drunk in Love.”

“I was recording with this producer by the name of Detail. We were working on ‘Drunk in Love,'” Future explained to fans before getting into the track. “We started working on this other record at the same time, and then once ‘Drunk in Love’ came out it pushed this song to the side.”

Future paid a visit to “The Wendy Williams Show” on Monday (Mar 24), where he further elaborated on how he lost the track to Bey.

“I demoed the song with the producer. I demoed it first for her to listen to,” he said. “I guess she had done the record and she was saving the record. I had did another version, ‘Good Morning,’ because we didn’t know when she was going to put the album out.”

“Then she put it out [in] December, after I was supposed to put my album out in November, it just pushed my song to the side.

Though it’s unfortunate that “Good Morning” got scrapped from Future’s upcoming album, Honest, it seems unlikely that his version would’ve been as big of a smash as Bey’s.

Honest is currently set for release on April 22.
