BET’s not even trying to pretend like it’s paying attention to women with the list of nominees for the 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards.
There are only two people representing for the lady lyricists this year: Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea. Don’t act like you didn’t see this showdown coming again. The network has comlpetely done away with the Best Female Rapper category this year, so lots of other women in hip-hop have effectively been left out of the festivities.
Out of 18 categories, Nicki and Iggy are collectively nominated for five awards, and they’re facing off for Best Hip Hop Video with “Pills N Potions” and “Fancy” respectively.
Aside from that, Nicki’s up for Lyricist of the Year, MVP of the Year and the Made-You-Look Award (Best Hip-Hop Style) award. Iggy has also been nominated for the Who Blew Up and the People’s Champ awards.
Overall, Drake stands the best chance of taking home a trophy because he’s got a grand total of six nominations this year! They might just want to have him sit by the stage when the 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards is filmed September 20 at the Atlanta’s Civic Center. The ceremony won’t air until October 14 at 8 p.m., but scroll down for the full list of nominees!
