A Florida man said he fell in love with a dolphin and they had a physical relationship.

Malcolm Brenner has written a book about it to get people to understand why the mammals need to be protected in the wild.

Brenner and the dolphin met in the 1970s at a Sarasota County amusement park, and he calls their underwater love affair “passionate.”

“The thing I learned the hard way is that dolphins can develop very, very deep emotional bonds to you — bonds that are so strong, we don’t understand how they work,” Brenner said.

The book’s main message, he said, is that the marine mammals are smart and capable of love.

“Let me put it this way,” Brenner said. “I was chronically depressed for about five years after I learned about her death, and I don’t miss her that much any more. I feel a sense of fulfillment now that I got this book out.” His book is called “Wet Goddess: Recollections of a Dolphin Lover.”
