[Updated 3:24 pm] The family of deceased student Daniel Parmertor released a statement Monday afternoon, just hours after their loved one was killed in a tragic shooting at Chardon High School.

“We are shocked by this senseless tragedy. Danny was a bright young boy who had a bright future ahead of him. The family is torn by this loss. We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time.”

Parmertor, 16, of Chardon, was one of three wounded students transported Monday morning by Life Flight from the high school crime scene to MetroHealth Medical Center’s Level One Trauma Center on Cleveland’s near west side.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the deceased victim.

About an hour before the family statement was released, Chardon Police Chief Tim McKenna broke the terrible news. McKenna, in an afternoon news conference announced, “We have one deceased student right now.” (via Fox 8)

[Updated 11:44 am] Of two students at Hillcrest Hospital, the 17 year old boy is in critical condition, and the 18-year-old female is stable.
[Updated 11:14 am.] While the shooter’s name has not been revealed by police, a particular name has been floating around various social media outlets. The news station found this person’s twitter account, and, posted 2 days ago, were disturbing pictures. In one, he’s holding two pistols aimed at the camera. In another, he’s holding a sign with today’s date on it. Underneath that, it says “Chardon High School Massacre.”
Again, this person has not been identified as the shooter, just speculated by other students who saw him to be so.

[Updated 9:06 a.m. ET] The superintendent of Chardon schools said Monday he believes there was only one gunman involved in the shooting at Chardon High School.

[Updated 9:01 a.m. ET] A person who fired shots at a high school near Cleveland on Monday morning is in custody, a school official said.

[Updated 8:55 a.m. ET] At least three students were wounded when two people entered the cafeteria of a high school near Cleveland, Ohio, and opened fire just as the school day was beginning, police and a school board member said.

The shooting happened at Chardon High School in Chardon, Ohio, Lt. John Hiscox of the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office said.

Three or four students were hit by the gunfire, said Larry Reiter of the Chardon Schools Board of Education. He did not know their conditions, but said helicopters had been called to take the injured to a hospital.

Chardon is a small city of about 5,100 people located 30 miles east of Cleveland. About 1,150 students attend the high school, which is next to Chardon Middle School and across the street from Maple Elementary School.

[Updated 8:43 a.m. ET]Two shooters entered Chardon High School and and shot three or four students in the cafeteria, school board member Larry Reiter told CNN. He did not know their condition.

**UPDATE**

Chardon Fire has confirmed they were called to the high school for a shooting. The Fire dispatcher said multiple students are injured. Metro LifeFlight has been called to the school.

One suspect – a student – has been taken into suspect. Police do not believe there is a second gunman at this time.

At 8:50AM, officials are evacuating the high school. All high school students were taken to Maple Elementary School to be reunited with their parents.

The Superintendent immediately canceled classes at all Chardon Schools.

Via 19 Action News:
There were 5 victims, 4 boys and 1 girl.
A teacher, Mr. Hall, was the teacher who chased the shooter, a 17 yr old student, out of the school, where police apprehended him.
The shooter is said to have used a handgun; he is in custody and cooperating with police.
There was a report of two shooters; this is unconfirmed and presumed untrue.
The gunman is said to have tweeted about the shooting last night, but said Twitter account has been deleted, so this cannot be confirmed.
