A family member checking on an elderly couple made a tragic discovery Saturday night.

Medina Police say in what was apparent frustration over a couple’s failing health, Ronald Werner, 72 and his wife, Lillian Werner, 69 were found in their bed dead from an apparent murder-suicide.

Initial reports indicate each suffered one gunshot wound. A small caliber handgun was found on the bed between the two.

Police were called to the residence on Nottingham, at 11:35 p.m. Saturday evening, by a family member who had arrived at the residence to check on the well-being of the couple.

When the family member entered the residence he discovered a note believed to have been written by Lillian, and immediately contacted the Medina Police Department.

The bodies were transported to the Cuyahoga County Coroner’s Office for examination.

The men and women of the Medina Police Department, extend their deepest sympathy to the Werner family and friends.
