Rumor has it, Eddie Murphy is shopping around a TV adaptation of his 1984 movie Beverly Hills Cop, along with  Sony Pictures Television and The Shield creator Shawn Ryan. Um. Okay.

In the movie, Eddie plays Axle Foley, the hip, slick-talking detective from Detroit who comes to Beverly Hills to assist the police on a murder investigation and shakes things up. It was so successful, it spawned two sequels, in 1987 and 1994.

Yes, the last movie was 18 years ago.

But the new trend now seems to be bringing back old movies or television series and modernizing them. But I don’t know about this one….

In the updated version, it will center around Axle Foley’s son, presumably a cop, while Axle Foley is the chief of police. It is said that Eddie Murphy will make an appearance in the pilot if the show gets some tv time.

This movie is a classic, and I’m just not sure it should be touched. What do you think? Will it work, or will they mess up an incredible trilogy?
