Juan Manuel Marquez proved that maybe the fourth time is the charm. The Mexican fighter stunned the boxing world by knocking out Manny Pacquiao in the sixth round of their bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
This was the fourth time in eight years the two fighters touched gloves with “Pacman” winning by decision twice and a third being called a draw. But this time Marquez landed a punch that put the sensation from the Philippines down in the third round and then again in the sixth for good.
“I threw a perfect punch,” Marquez said. “I knew Manny could knock me out at any time.”
While there are already questions as to whether there will be a fifth rematch, a cloud has been cast over the much delayed Pacquiao/Mayweather fight. Pac Man’s record is now 54-5-2. Will this make that matchup with Floyd “Money” Mayweather more or less attractive?
