Details of rapper Joshua “JayLoud” Davis murder surfaced online Wednesday (December 26).

A teen who was friends with slain Englewood rapper Joseph “Lil Jojo” Coleman was shot dead Tuesday while wearing a hooded sweatshirt honoring the deceased vocalist, his family said Wednesday. Joshua Davis, 18, of the 7200 block of South BellAvenue, was shot multiple times after getting into a fight with several men, police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said. Reports claim an initial altercation led to his fatal shooting Christmas night.

Joshua Davis, 18, who went by the rap name JayLoud, was shot to death in the 2000 block of W. 69th Street — a few blocks from his home — after an altercation with several males on a CTA bus at about 11:30 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. Officials say the group followed Davis off the bus and one of the men pulled out a handgun and shot Davis several times in the torso and once in the ear. (NBC Chicago)

His sister has already come forward and cited his decision for wearing clothing in support of recently slain rapper Lil JoJo as motviation behind the shooting.

“He was killed because he was wearing a hoodie and getting off the bus,” said the victim’s sister Selina Davis, 24. “He was a great boy. He was only a baby.” Selina Davis said her brother, whose rap name was JayLoud, was wearing a “JoJo” hoodie to honor his best friend who was killed in September. Coleman, also 18, reportedly was feuding with rapper Chief Keef before his death. (DNA Info)

One of JayLoud’s cousins also reportedly warned him about the repercussions of rocking the attire.

Johnathan Moody, a cousin of Davis, said he and other friends had warned Davis about wearing the “JoJo” sweatshirt around the neighborhood. “We would tell him, ‘That ain’t good to wear that hoodie.’ But that was his best friend,” Moody said. Moody and other family members said they heard about Davis’ death from friends and on Facebook. They said they heard that several men approached Davis after he got off a bus and shot him. “I guess the guys he got into it with, they were with another clique,” said Moody, 18. “It’s dumb. To kill someone over a hoodie?” Moody said. “It’s pointless, man. All this murder is pointless.” (DNA Info)
