A deaf man in Burlington, North Carolina was stabbed when another man mistook his sign language for gang signs. SMH.

So here’s what happened. 45-year-old Terrance Ervin Daniels got into an altercation with another deaf man. So he was communicating in sign language. So then he was approached by 22-year-old Jarell Neal, who stabbed him several times.

Daniels collapsed in the grass, was found by emergency personell, and was transported to Alamance Regional Medical Center. He’s in stable condition.

Luckily, Neal was captured with the help of a neighbor. Cathy Sanford heard Neal in her backyard as he was running through it, and helped authorities track him down. Apparently, Neal had threatened Sanford’s 12-year-old granddaughter earlier that day.

Neal was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury and felonious assault on a handicapped person.

He’s being held in lieu of $500,000 bond at the Burlington Police Department.

Here’s the dumbest part of the story. Even though Neal thought Daniels was throwing up gang signs, Neal isn’t even in a gang! So what difference did it make?!?

Dummy.
