The Onion may have gone a little too far with one of their jokes. They’ve built a brand off satire, but angered many during Sunday’s Oscar’s tweeting spree, in which 9-year-old Quvenzhané Wallis was called a “c*nt.”

With a Twitter session full of tongue-in-cheek quips, things went downhill when the site took aim at the youngster writing, “Everyone else seems afraid to say it but that Quvenzhané Wallis is kind of a c*nt, right?”

Before long the social networking site lit up with criticism and empathy over the decision to post the tweet. Onion CEO, David Schafer’s email address was also posted online.

The tweet has since been deleted.

Even though she wasn’t favored to take home the golden statue, Wallis already made history as the youngest person ever to get nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award. She went up against  the oldest person nominated  in the same category, Emmanuelle Riva, but both were beaten out by Jennifer Lawrence. The 22-year-old actress nabbed the statue for her role in Silver Linings Playbook.

Now that awards season is officially over, Wallis has another big gig to look forward to. She was recently announced as the replacement for Willow Smith in the latest big screen adaptation of Annie.
