Serena Williams has won her 16th major tennis title!

The 31-year-old athlete earned her second French Open title today, defeating Russia’s Maria Sharapova 6-4 6-4.

After the match, which took place at the Philippe Chatrier Court in Paris, Williams spoke to the crowd in French.

“I’m just happy to be champion,” she said. “I had a dream when I was 10 years old that I would win the title here and talk to the crowd in French.”

She went on to say, “I didn’t think 11 years ago I would still be playing.”

“Honestly, I just feel so good. This is the only one I haven’t won more than once,” she said.

The tennis champ received her first French Open crown in 2002 after beating her sister Venus. She now holds the record as the oldest woman to win a major tile since 33-year-old Martina Navratilova in 1990.

Keep making history, Serena!
