President Obama asked for a “calm reflection” immediately following the Zimmerman verdict, but today (July 19) he spoke candidly about racial profiling in the country.

“When Trayvon Martin was first shot, I said that this could have been my son,” he beings. “Another way of saying that is Trayvon Martin could have been me, 35 years ago.”

The POTUS spoke on African-Americans are racially profiled, like a woman clutching her purse when one walks by, or being followed in department stores, then he tied it back to the Zimmerman trial.

“I don’t want to exaggerate this, but those sets of experiences informs how the African-American community interprets what happened one night in Florida,” said Obama. He also mentioned the “racial disparities in the application of our criminal laws” in the United States.
