To say Kendrick Lamar is hot right now would be an understatement.

The young California-based rapper dropped one of the hottest verses this year on Big Sean’s song “Control,” calling out his fellow rappers and warning them that Kendrick is comin’! The verse caused outraged rappers to respond lyrically, and honored performers to shout Kendrick out, while others chose to keep their heads down and hustle harder.

Not everyone was as moved by Kendrick’s verse though. We caught up with Nelly on the red carpet at the BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta to get his opinion. Here’s what he had to say:

“I wouldn’t say Kendrick shook up hip-hop. He did his thing, but I don’t think it was a shake up. We’ve had Tupac and Biggie killings – that’s a shake up. East Coast, West Coast war – that’s a shake up. Somebody spittin’ a hot 16 or a hot 24 – and it was dope – I don’t think that’s a shake up.”
