YG hasn’t forgotten his roots, and in an effort to give back to the community, the Def Jam rapper took 60 fans from Los Angeles County group homes on a $10,000 shopping spree over the Christmas holiday.

The act of kindness was aided by financial support from Snoop Dogg, and commenced with a YG-hosted essay contest in which the 23-year-old personally picked the winners and treated them to a trip to L.A.’s Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza. Each of the 60 picked out gifts for themselves and family members, and all were grateful for the experience.

“Thank you so much for everything. I appreciate it,”

said one of the many young people in a video from the event.

YG hopes his good deed will encourage others.

“My Christmas shopping experience should be a reminder to all to give back,”

the Compton native says,

“The children were able to be carefree for a day and not have to ace his or her reality.”

Giving back isn’t a one-time thing for the new CTE affiliate, he intends on expanding his charitable contributions into an annual holiday community outreach event
