According to CBS Sports…

The Senator is now The President. Of Youngstown State, anyway.

Youngstown State, the school where Tressel spent 15 seasons as a coach, named Tressel its new school president on Friday.

“After fully examining each and every candidate and reviewing the input from hundreds of individuals across the campus and the community, the Board of Trustees believes Mr. Tressel is the right individual at the right time to lead Youngstown State University,”

said Sudershan Garg, the chair of the school’s board.

“Mr. Tressel has the personality and leadership skills, in addition to widespread community support, to dramatically raise YSU’s profile and prominence across Ohio and the nation.”

Tressel was a unanimous choice at Youngstown a day after he was passed up for the same job by Akron where he’d been working as the vice president of strategic advancement. No, I don’t know what that means, either, but I bet it means he’s really good at the board game Risk.

In his 15 seasons coaching at Youngstown State, Tressel had a record of 135-57-2 and won four FCS (then I-AA) national titles. He left the school for the Ohio State job in 2001, where things went pretty well too. The Buckeyes went 106-22, winning six Big Ten titles and a national championship in 2002.

Tressel resigned from OSU in May 2011 amid NCAA violations stemming from players receiving free tattoos.
