Just as we were throwing our hands in the air wondering from where we might possibly ask for justice after the announcement came that Micahel Brelo, who shot two unarmed Black suspects in 2012, was found not guilty, it has been reported that the DOJ will be reviewing the case. The announcement came only a few hours after the judge in Cuyahoga County ruled in favor of Brelo, citing that he had constitutional rights to act in the manner in which he did. With the announcement, came a storm of heavy condemnation from many Black lives matters activists.

The statement from the DOJ read as follows:

We will continue our assessment, review all available legal options and will collaboratively determine what, if any, additional steps are available and appropriate given the requirements and limitations of the applicable laws in the federal judicial system.

Marcia Fusge, the Ohio Democratic Rep. also expressed her disappointment at the verdict, citing the concerns that Black people continue to not be given the benefit of the doubt in situation such as these.

The FBI are also said to be reviewing testimonies in the case. So maybe the final word has not been uttered yet. We certainly hope so.
