Today, six years ago, the world bid a tearful and reluctant farewell to the man known as the King of Pop.

Michael Jackson, one of the music industry’s biggest names, died of acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication after suffering a cardiac arrest at his home on 25 June 2009.

Here’s how the world is paying tribute to him this year.

1. Pentatonix’s Evolution of Michael Jackson medley

It is no coincidence that the Grammy-winning a cappella quintet dropped this medley days before Michael Jackson’s sixth death anniversary.

Uploading the evolution-style medley as a big surprise to their fans after a long YouTube hiatus, Pentatonix delivered again, garnering an impressive three million views in less than three days.

Pentatonix pays tribute to the King of Pop by covering some his greatest hits in six minutes, from Jackson 5’s “ABC” to modern day favourites like “You Are Not Alone” and “Heal the World”.

If you’re playing Michael Jackson’s songs on loop today, be sure to add this to your playlist.

2. Who’s Bad brings The Ultimate Michael Jackson Tribute to San Diego County Fair

Who’s Bad is the longest-running Michael Jackson tribute band, and the only one to predate his passing.

Founded in 2004, the band has been checking out sold-out shows at the world’s most famous pavilions off their “to-do” list.

They also performed in Singapore earlier this year at the Marina Bay Sands Grand Theatre.

3. One Rose for Michael J. Jackson tribute at Forest Lawn

One Rose for Michael J. Jackson has been an annual tribute to the late King of Pop.

Every year, fans make their pilgrimage to his Los Angeles grave to pay their tributes, but some people believed that every fan around the world should be able to do the same even if they couldn’t be there personally.

They then set up a page and a Paypal account for those people to buy roses and pay their respects, with their messages curated on a memorial blog.

The purchasing of roses have closed this year, but you can still see the tributes of other members at their memorial blog.

Three photos of Michael Jackson have emerged earlier this month after photographer Francis Apesteguy published them on Getty Images.

The photos show Michael Jackson performing in Paris, France, for his Bad World Tour on 27 June 1988.

Fans enjoy the memories from the Bad World Tour as it was his longest (17 months) – and some say most thrilling — tour in his career.

5. MJSUNIFC’s annual Remembering Michael Memories Tour

The amount of dedication put into this is rather impressive. This Michael Jackson fan group organises annual tours for fans to share their memories of the singer.

The 12-hour tour starts off at a set location in Los Angeles and brings the group to Michael’s Beverly Hills home, to his Forest Lawn gravesite, and finally to the Neverland ranch once owned by him.

With these tributes still going strong six years after his demise, it goes to show how the man had changed lives forever in his career.

Rest in peace, King of Pop.
