Power

Power lived up to its name Sunday, with a Season 3 premiere that set a new all-time high in viewers for the premium cable network.

The crime drama’s season opener — which, as part of a previously announced scheduling shift, is the first of Starz’s original series to air on a Sunday — nabbed 2.26 million live + same day viewers, up 55 percent from the previous record holder, Outlander‘s Season 2 premiere, which grabbed 1.46 million pairs of eyes.

The episode, titled “Call Me James,” also brought in 58 percent more viewers than Power‘s Season 2 premiere (1.43 mil) and 47 percent more than its Season 2 finale (1.54 mil).

“We are thrilled Power continues to be a force in its third season with this record-setting performance —something very few shows ever achieve. We are proud to say the show is must-watch TV and has helped to establish STARZ as a Sundaydestination for viewers,” Starz president and CEO Chris Albrecht said in a statement.

In May, Starz announced that it would move its series to Sundays to compete with other networks’ signature dramas, including Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead.
