Fantasia Cancels ‘All Lives Matter’ Concert

AOL Build Presents Fantasia, 'The Definition Of...'

Soulful singer Fantasia Barrino scheduled then canceled an “All Lives Matter” concert in Charlotte, North Carolina, according to New York Daily News.

The city has been an epicenter of protests after the shooting death of Keith Lamont Scott.

The American Idol winner tweeted out an invitation for local residents to join her for a peaceful protest.

But the 32-year-old quickly took the post down, saying the city of Charlotte shut down her event because of the Panther’s game.

“It wasn’t just about music. I don’t know if people were coming out thinking they were going to hear my songs, but what they were really going to hear was worship,” Barrino said. “They were going to hear worship and prayer and poetry reading and strong men coming together to see if we can pull in our men. Not just only black, not just only white. People were out protesting today, it wasn’t just white people. It was black people, it was Latino people.”

Her husband, Kendall Taylor, also expressed frustration around the verbiage all lives matter:

“It’s real easy to critique somebody sitting behind your desk, or behind your smartphone […] and you’re talking about a word between ‘all’ and ‘black’,” Taylor said in the video. “Black lives matter because all lives matter.”

Even though this didn’t pan out, we are sure Fantasia will find another way to contribute to the cause by using her platform and talents.
