COLUMBUS – Terrorist organization ISIS has claimed credit for Monday’s attack at The Ohio State University’s main campus.

Amaq, the unofficial ISIS news agency, issued a statement Tuesday calling suspect Abdul Razak Ali Artan one of its soldiers, Business Insider reports.

Artan,18, was a Somali refugee who left his homeland with his family for Pakistan in 2007. In 2014, Artan became a permanent U.S. citizen. He was a student at Ohio State.

Investigators have worked to determine if Artan was inspired by terrorist propaganda. Both ISIS and al Qaeda have urged their followers to implement attacks with vehicles and knives.

Artan is believed to have posted strong thoughts on the treatment of Muslims to his Facebook page, noting that he was, “Sick and tired of seeing my fellow Muslim brothers and sisters being killed and tortured EVERYWHERE.”
