“The Game” Scores Big Ratings with Season Premiere!

OK so remember last January when “The Game” returned to TV for a 4th season on BET. The show had been cancelled by The CW a couple years earlier and fans welcomed the new episodes with open arms. The Game set a big record for the cable channel, drawing 7.7 million viewers. It was highest-rated airing of a sitcom on ad-supported cable in TV history.

Though the numbers dwindled over the course of the season, The Game remained a big hit for BET and was renewed for a 5th season with a full 22 episode order.

“The Game” returned with a lot of drama (Abortions, ex lovers, family drama, rehab and race issues, all in just one episode) for its 2nd BET season Tuesday, but while it performed great, it failed to match that record of 7 million viewers. The show drew 5.3 million viewers. The viewership was still a boost from the season finale last year, which reached 4.4 million viewers.

The series didn’t come close to these kinds of numbers on The CW.

On “The Game,” Wendy Raquel Robinson’s character may have trouble when it comes to men, but that’s not the case for the actress in real life.

She recently dished to E ssence.com about all the things she loves about her Mr. Fix It and how she found him just as she made peace with being alone and hasn’t been happier since they tied the knot nine years ago.

Here are a few highlights of the interview:

How she met her husband and how he proposed

I am a huge Lakers fan. It was the finals and there was a little soiree at my house. A friend of mine who doesn’t drive asked if it was okay to bring a friend over because he was his ride. I said sure and they came over. The guys were all talking and the ladies were all talking and, you know, he’s holding court, and I’m like, who’s this guy? We just started talking and the rest was history. It doesn’t get any simpler than that. It was really just a connection at first sight and we were both at the right places in our lives and it just happened.

We had been dating for about two years and things were going really, really great. I was actually doing a theater show in North Carolina and he was going to go with me to see a play I was doing. It was my birthday and we’re packing up and he goes, “I want you to see this video I made.” I was like, “A video?” So we’re watching and he’s just singing happy birthday on the video. I’m thinking, oh how cute, and then at the end of the video he goes, “By the way, will you marry me?” We started running around the house like little eight-year-olds. He had the ring and everything. It was really a 3D proposal. That was really special. Back then, this was all on VHS. It was so sweet.

What she adores about him

Honey, he can fix anything. Do you hear me? Anything. I got a man, man, man, man. I mean he can fix literally anything. He’s MacGyver times one hundred. Not even just with the technical stuff, but any apparatus around the house. He really gets into it and he loves that challenge. And, he is the communicator in the relationship. He loves to talk and he loves to work it out, whereas sometimes I agree to disagree. Usually he’s like, “No, we have to talk this out.” So I love that about him. He doesn’t let me go into my shell.

Game Checks Into An Insane Asylum! [VIDEO]

We all knew it was a matter of time before the music industry became too much for West Coast MC, Game. In his latest music video, “Martians vs. Goblins,” Jayceon Taylor finds himself in the loony bin. Tyler The Creator aka Wolf Haley is right along with Game rapping about throwing Rihanna in front of a train and tying Lil B up to a tank of propane to watch him blow up. Whoa, buddy! In an odd turn of events, Lil Wayne contributes vocals, but doesn’t appear in the visual. Asylum patients mouth Weezy’s parts.

“The concept of the video is really trying to go more on the horror side. Game gets checked into the insane asylum and then he ends up getting taken to the coroner’s room and put to sleep,” offered the video’s director Matt Alonzo.

This cut off Game’s R.E.D. LP reminds me of Russell Simmons‘ failed horrorcore rap group, Flatlinerz. However, it is a cool Halloween joint, if that’s what you’re into.

The Game’s Norway concert came to a screeching halt last night — when the rapper dodged a flying bottle … and then went into the crowd to FIGHT the moronic perpetrator.

Before he jumped off the stage … Game warned the person, “Next time you throw something, I’m just gonna ask someone next to you who threw it and we gon’ jump over there and f*ck you up.”

But the rapper — and his buffed out crew — got tired of talking … and charged into the crowd on a seek-and-destroy mission. Game can be heard saying, “You ain’t so tough now, boy.”

Game returned to the stage within moments — and it doesn’t appear any punches were thrown … but we’re guessing the guy learned his lesson.

*BET has set a return date for The Game.

The record breaking sitcom will launch its fifth season on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012 at 10 p.m., the cable network announced late Tuesday. Tia Mowry Hardrict leads the cast playing the wife of a professional football player (Pooch Hall).

“The Game” debuted on its new home for its fourth season with huge numbers for BET in January, drawing 7.7 million viewers. This makes it the best showing for the series on cable and broadcast ever, and BET’s most-watched telecast.

The comedy, created by Mara Brock Akil, was canceled by the CW after three seasons in May 2009, when it was averaging 2 million viewers. BET picked it up in 2010.

“The Game” is back for it’s fifth season on BET. Coming January 2012, we’ll be watching the drama follow Mel & Derwin, Tasha & Malik and Kelly & Jason all over again. But before you peep the sneak peek below, let’s recap where we left off:

Derwin and Melanie Davis visited a fertility specialist to find out why they couldn’t get pregnant, but Derwin became suspicious that she secretly had an abortion. Tasha was fired from being Derwin’s publicist and also found out that her “terminally ill” man Bo is really just a liar with a wife and kids.

Tasha’s quarterback son Malik was cut from the team and his ex-girlfriend has returned at his door step. And Kelly and Jason are still separated, but we’re keeping hope!
