GREEN, Ohio – Authorities are investigating a series of plastic bottle bomb explosions inside residential mailboxes in Green.

According to Lt. William Holland of the Summit County Sheriff’s Department, with-in the last 30 days, five plastic “bottle” bombs have been found inside mailboxes in Green.

“They’re basically plastic bottles with aluminum foil and the components that make up the bomb,” said Lt. William Holland.

In one case, the bottle bomb did explode. The victim plastic bottle bomb told Fox 8 News that a few weeks ago, she came outside and found the outside of her mailbox was charred. She soon realized a bottle bomb had exploded. Last Friday, she found another bomb inside her mailbox, but this time it did not explode.

The woman, whom did not want to be identified, told Fox 8 News, “I think it’s a prank. I hope it is because that’s dangerous. If it’s kids pulling pranks, I think they need to know how serious it is, somebody is going to get hurt.”

Deputies say no one has been hurt. They want to warn residents about the danger these homemade bombs can cause.

If you find a plastic bottle inside your mailbox, “Don’t try to move it, don’t touch it. Don’t try to shake and see what it is. Just step away and call the police department,” said Lt. William Holland.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information should call the Summit County Sheriff’s Department.
