This story caught my attention just on the premise of the startling and oh so unfortunate headline.

This past Friday, the praises were going up in the sanctuary, but bullets are what came back down as a Texas youth leader, Pastor Eddie Contreras, was shot in the face and hand by a troubled young man. Josue Pablo, 20, reportedly entered the Walnut Park Assembly of God Church in Garland, TX and was yelling obscenities and calling members of the congregation fake.

The members mistook the disruptive scene as part of a skit, but the disruption turned detrimental in minutes when they saw him draw the gun, aim it and shoot it.

The bullet went through Contreras’ hand and hit him in the face. Pastor Contreras, thankfully, survived the random attack from the troubled young man who’s mother and sister also happened to be the ones who encouraged him to come to church to deal with the personal struggles he was experiencing. Contreras later spent eight hours in reconstructive surgery and is recovering at the moment.

Unnerving and a bit scary, what do you think about the recent news of the horrific shooting in the middle of Pastor Contreras’ sermon? Where do you stand? Let’s continue to pray for the safety and provision of the saints – especially our ministry leaders, pastors and bishops abroad. Speak your mind by posting a comment or two in the message board below.
