While Lady Gaga was shaking up Central Park, Rihanna was rocking the streets of Rockefeller Plaza, where she performed her biggest hits at the Toyota Concert Series on ‘Today’ this morning, and talked about her recent appearance at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards.

Rihanna marched into the street in her leather dominatrix outfit, carrying just a mic and a heavy attitude, to perform her sexy hit, ‘S&M.’ She was followed by her back-up dancers, who had to play security guards and pry her away from the crowd gate when she was engulfed by the fans she was shaking hands with, as she walked to the small stage.

The famed Barbadian sang over the crowd on the end of the stage before making it to the big platform, where her male dancers/stand-in body guards moved their feet around her in choreographed form.

From there, Ri-Ri delivered more of her hits, including ‘Only Girl (In the World),’ and ‘What’s My Name,’ and ‘California King Bed,’ much to the delight of the lucky fans in New York City.

In between songs, the seductive young popstress chatted with hosts Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira about her November 2010 album, ‘Loud’ and her Sunday night performance at the Billboard Music Awards alongside Britney Spears. When Lauer pointed out that some people found the duo show a little too hot for TV, RiRi said that she had heard differently from her fans, and brushed off the haters. “I went to Twitter to see what my fans thought about it and they really enjoyed seeing us two up there together. There will be some people who think that’s too sexy, but you’re always going to find that,” she said matter-of-factly. “Nothing popped out, we didn’t make out… People will always talk, whether bad or good.”

As for her latest album, Rihanna says that if her music sounds good turned up, it will be loved. “‘Loud’ symbolizes all of the energy that went into this album, we just had such a great time — we were making it on tour,” she spills. “So, it was all about music, and I’ve only listened to my music loud. If it feels good that way then it’s going to feel good to the fans.”
