Last night, celebrities such as Lebron James, Ashanti and Denzel Washington gathered in Washington, DC in support of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America ‘Great Futures Start Here’ campaign. The event was held to raise awareness around the Boys and Girls Club and it’s impact on today’s youth with the celebrity attendees speaking about the impact of the organization on their lives. Boys and Girls Club of America emphasizes academic success, healthy lifestyles and good character while aiming to lower high school dropout rate, childhood obesity, and youth violence.
In support of the campaign, a PSA was released today that features Beyonce’s inspirational song, ‘I was Here’. Directed by Academy Award winner Ron Howard, the the video features 21 notable Boys & Girls Club alumni including national co-spokespersons Denzel Washington and Jennifer Lopez, along with Ashanti, Cuba Gooding Jr., Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Mario Lopez, Ne-Yo, Shaquille O’Neal, Smokey Robinson, and Kerry Washington.
