The Brimfield Police Department has arrested Richard D. Scalise, 38, and James E. Austin, 34, both of Monroeville, PA. The suspects were arrested late Wednesday evening after an investigation of thefts at Wal-mart in Brimfield, Ohio.

Loss prevention at Wal-Mart alerted officers to the suspects, who were attempting to return merchandise stolen from a different store location. The suspects were operating in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia and had stolen from approximately 25 stores.

Jurisdictions where thefts occurred include Brimfield, Ravenna, Liberty Township, Boardman Township, Youngstown, Austintown, Steubenville, East Liverpool, Weirton W. Virginia, Hermitage, Cranberry and Greenville Pennsylvania.

Officers recovered eight fraudulent Nevada driver’s licenses, numerous stolen items, gift cards and a list of locations where the two had committed thefts.

Both were charged with Engaging in a Pattern of Corrupt Activity, which is a felony 2; Possession of Criminal Tools, f-5. They were processed at the Brimfield Police Department and then transported to the Portage County Jail. Additional charges could be filed pending review by the Portage County Prosecutor’s Office.
