CLEVELAND — The sole survivor of family tragedy that happened at a Brookpark Cracker Barrel restaurant has died.

Kayla Allen, 10, was shot by her father, Kevin Allen, 51, of Strongsville, on April 12.

The man also opened fire on his wife, Katherina (Kate), and other daughter, Kerri, 9.

Police said the mother and her children went out to eat to celebrate Kerri’s birthday.

Katherina and Kerri did not survive the shooting, and police shot and killed Kevin when he refused to drop his weapon.

On Tuesday, the family released a statement that said:

“The family of Kayla Allen is appreciative and grateful for the support and prayers of so many during this journey. Kayla has died peacefully at home. She has been surrounded by family and friends for the past few days, comfortable and serene. This time has been most meaningful to us as we held her and loved her, prayed for her and said our goodbyes.

We have been heartened by the hopes and outpouring of concern of friends as well as strangers and this has given us comfort during a most difficult time.

Public memorial service information will be forthcoming.”

According to the Medina County coroner’s office, Kayla passed away around 4 p.m. on Tuesday from complications of her injuries.

Kayla had been moved to hospice care last week after “extensive discussions with doctors and long, prayerful consideration,” her family said.
