A prominent Detroit pastor was carjacked and assaulted Wednesday.

Pastor Marvin L. Winans, the head of Perfecting Church, was still dazed as he spoke to Channel 7 (WXYZ-TV) as the story was breaking.

Winans said he was buying gas at a Citgo station on Linwood near Davison on the city’s west side when he was approached and assaulted.

“There was at least four of them who followed me out,” said Winans, also an actor and a member of the Grammy-winning gospel family The Winans.

Winans was hit as he pumped gas.

He said the attackers also grabbed at his pants. He said he didn’t know if the men knew who he is but if they did “it didn’t matter.”

Winans, who has been a vocal opponent of strip clubs in the city, said the violence must end.

“I’m just more saddened that it has come to this,” said Winans. “This kind of nonsense just has to stop.”

“We have to take a look and say this has to stop,” said Winans, referring to his attack and that of the 84-year-old church security guard shot and killed outside a church on Tireman, also on the city’s west side.
