This is just sick! ‘Dark Knight’ shooting suspect James Holmes is one of the most hated men in America, but some people on Twitter seem to think he’s the country’s newest heartthrob.
A flood of tweets describing Holmes as “hot” or “cute” rebounded across the Internet after images were released of the 24-year-old accused of killing 12 and injuring 58 in a Colorado movie theater last week.
“James Holmes is kinda hot,” Twitter user Chelsea Montani wrote on Friday, following news of the massacre. “How many people are judging me for thinking James Holmes is hot?” user Henry Valentine wrote. “I want to write him letters when he goes to prison.”
Holmes appeared in court on Monday, sporting a shock of red-orange hair which seemed to have a strange appeal for some, even as they knew they were expressing a shocking opinion.
“It sucks that this james holmes dude mugshot is pretty cute,” a user by the name of @imbrianna wrote on Saturday. The bizarre phenomenon was spotted first by Jezebel, and since then many of the tweets have been deleted or the users’ accounts made private.
Holmes’ new fans were immediately lambasted across the Internet, as other Twitter users slammed his admirers comments as appalling and insensitive.
