Pittsburgh Honors Native Son Rapper Wiz Khalifa
The city of Pittsburgh has produced more than just the championship Pirates and Steelers, but world class musicians.
Among them are jazz man Ahmad Jamal, singer Phyllis Hyman and singer/guitarist George Benson.
The latest to be added to the list of musical greats from “The Burgh” is rapper Wiz Khalifa.
It’s been a solid week for Khalifa. Just 7 days ago, he released his sophomore album, O.N.I.F.C., and yesterday he was part of a huge announcement in his hometown.
After a request made by Wiz’s grandfather was fulfilled, Councilman Bill Peduto made the announcement that December 12, 2012 is now officially “Wiz Khalifa Day” in Pittsburgh. The Taylor Gang leader has also been proclaimed as an ambassador for his hometown.
Joined by his family, Wiz happily accepted the news, saying that he has always bragged about being from Pittsburgh and that he doesn’t feel as though he’s accomplished much yet.
