A Florida man was arrested Sunday (June 2) for gunning down three of his co-workers after they made fun of his shooting skills –or lack thereof. Police in Ocala say the man shot three bouncers, all of whom had teased him for misfiring during a day at the shooting range.
Andrew Joseph “Punchy” Lobban confessed to, and has been charged with, three counts of murder following the weekend altercation. The suspect told police that he only meant to hit 25-year-old Josue “Sway” Santiago because he felt “punked” after a video mocking his crappy shot ended up online.
Lobban, and one of the victims went to a gun range a few weeks prior, and at some point he shot incorrectly and was recorded doing so. The footage was passed around to employees at the Ocala Entertainment Complex who embarrassed the suspect by laughing about the ordeal at a non-work outing.
During his police interview, Lobban “kept harping on” being teased. “It really bothered him,” a cop said.
All three victims –the other two being 23-year-old Benjamin Larz Howard, and Jerry Lamar Bynes Jr., 20– were shot once in the head at point-blank range. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while the remainders passed away at the hospital.
According to friend, Clifford Floyd, he and Lobban were drinking at AJ’s bar on the night of the shooting. Floyd watched the 31-year-old brandish a handgun from his pants and open fire as everyone was leaving the establishment. There was no verbal argument prior to Lobban pulling out a weapon.
Friends describe him as being a “joker,” who “always had a smile.”
He had no criminal history of violence. “We’re surprised by something like this happening,” Sgt. Angy Scroble said.
“I think it’s very random, and I’m saddened by it,” Mayor Kent Guinn added.
The father of two was arrested without incident at his girlfriend’s house, and admitted to dropping a 9 mm pistol and black T-shirt while running away from the scene.
