All hail King Mathers. Thirteen years after releasing The Marshall Mathers LP, Eminem tops the charts once again with the sequel, The Marshall Mathers LP 2.
The eighth album from the Detroit rapper debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 792,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan (via Billboard). The numbers exceeded the 750,000 forecast made by industry sources.
The project also earns the sixth-biggest sales week of the past five years and marks Eminem’s seventh consecutive No. 1 album. Only his 1999 debut The Slim Shady LP missed the top spot.
MMLP2 dethrones Drake’s Nothing Was the Same (658,000) to become the second-biggest sales week of the year. Justin Timberlake maintains the year’s biggest week with The 20/20 Experience, which entered at No. 1 with 968,000 in March.
