Beyonce dropped her visual album less than a week ago and already the project has racked up 1 million records sold exclusively through iTunes! While the reception of the project has been generally positive (we’re 100% here for it!), some critics are already buzzing about the hot mama’s unapologetically sexed up image and racier lyrics. One of the sexiest videos from the 17-music video project is “Yonce,” which features models Jourdan Dunn, Joan Smalls  and Chanel Iman , lots of skin and even girl-on-girl licking!

The  director of the sizzling video, Ricky Saiz, spilled the tea with The Cut on how the concept and how they really went there.   See five things he revealed below:

Beyonce plays somewhat of a madam in the video

“I think this is really straight-forward. I wanted to strip down any concrete narrative and wanted it to be more about the girls, doing the performance with Beyoncé taking a backseat as a kind of madam character.”

Beyonce wanted all black models for the video

“Beyoncé wanted to push that angle — that was her request and concept initially. I think any time you can promote a sense of community and unity and that is natural, you should. All the girls are friends and it was so friendly and there was no ego on set. Everyone was so happy to be there. The girls were incredible. What a great cast. It was spontaneous and not at all contrived.”

The Lick was Joan Smalls idea“We were going through takes and it was her and Joan and they were close. And Joan went for the lick and we got it.” (When asked if she thought the move and video was “too sexy,” Smalls told Entertainment Weekly, “Noooooo! If you think something is too sexy, you are too boring!”  Welp!).

Beyonce never sings in the video

“Beyoncé actually never sings in the video. She almost plays like a madam character and the girls are doing the performing for her in a sense. I think they are so important individually and have their own characters and they each really brought that to the set… [It’s] almost like this just happened and we were there with our cameras.”

The video was influenced by Madonna and 90′s eroticism

“I wanted to do something sexy and provocative, but not so overt. I feel like the Mileys and the Rihannas have that covered and this was more sophisticated. There are a lot of references to nineties eroticism and Madonna videos. We shot it against one wall for the most part, so I was looking a lot of Carlo Molino photos.”
