As one door opens for a familiar face in music, another closes. Today, The-Dream announced that he is leaving his Def Jam Records post.

This marks the end of a six year relationship between the house that Russell and Rick built and the Grammy winning singer-songwriter. Like most artists these days, The-Dream made this revelations through Twitter/Instagram. “I will miss this logo. It all started here! Love Everything that I achieved there, EXODUS THE-DREAM#exodusthedream,” he wrote.

He’s yet to release a full explanation, but a later tweet infers that he may have been tired of the politics that come with the major label machine. “Creativity! My own Time my own Way. Just me and spat my Engineer at the Time. No label at All! Perfect,” The-Dream explained.

Each of the Atlanta native’s five studio albums, including his most recent, IV Play, were released on Def Jam.
