LeBron James definitely knows a fair share about Hip-Hop music, especially by being friends with Jay Z and Drake. The hoops superstar is using some of that knowledge in aiding the budding rap career of one of his close childhood friends.

Sian Cotton, a former teammate of James’ at St. Vincent-St. Mary High in Akron, Ohio, has left basketball behind to focus on creating music. After hanging up his sneaks in high school, Cotton went on the play football for Ohio State then later graduating from Walsh University.

TMZ caught up with Cotton, who praises his his high school bud for giving him the biggest break in music thus far.

From TMZ:

We spoke to Sian Cotton — who’s been close with ‘Bron since they were kids. In fact, Sian says they’ve been having rap sessions together since they were 9.

Sian says LeBron hasn’t just been supportive of his aspiring rap career — but when LBJ learned he’d be on the cover of 2K14, he did everything he could to help get Sian’s track “Almost Home” on the game.

“I’d been submitting my stuff to 2K, and then I found out LeBron was gonna be on the cover,” Sian said.

Cotton said he was going to call in a favor to his friend once he found the Miami Heat All-Star would be gracing the cover of the NBA 2K14 video game. Much to his surprise, James already knew Cotton was attempting to get on and got the MC a slot on the NBA2K14 soundtrack with his song, “Almost Home.”

Local Cleveland newspaper The Plain Dealer also did a detailed profile on Cotton, and the pair’s closeness is not a gimmick as the feature highlighted a tweet from James throwing support behind the aspiring artist. Cotton’s manager says his artist signed a distribution deal with Sony Music and has an EP titled Black Moth coming soon.
