Young Money’s Nicki Minaj may have wanted extra attention to herself last night (August 24) following the release of her record-breaking “Anaconda” music video by allegedly staging her Video Music Awards wardrobe malfunction.

According to reports, Nicki strategically planned the VMAs incident to go down Sunday night.

Eyewitnesses who watched Nicki’s rehearsal Sunday morning tell TMZ … she walked on stage wearing the same dress — unzipped. One eyewitness says it caught her eye because she initially thought Nicki had come out in a robe. We’re told Nicki was wrapping her arms around the dress in a “weird” sort of way … trying to manipulate it to see how much would be exposed. (TMZ)

Minaj reportedly addressed the wardrobe malfunction following her onstage appearance.

Nicki Minaj avoided a majorly embarrassing moment when she opened the MTV Video Music Awards with Ariana Grande and Jessie J Sunday night. After finishing her solo “Anaconda” performance, Minaj joined the divas for “Bang Bang.” While they danced, she clutched the front of her cleavage-baring LBD. “You all know I had a wardrobe malfunction,” the rapper yelled to reporters backstage. The YSL-clad star added, “We ran out of time getting the dress zipped up.” (E! Online)

She also jumped onto Instagram Monday (August 25) to dish on the seriousness behind the near-fashion disaster.

“Lol. Who did this? I know that’s what the boyz wanted but hell naw!!!!!!! I held on to that dress for DEAR LIFE!!! There was no bra and no panties to save me. Took real commitment. ????????????????????,” she captioned to a photo of herself August 25. (Nicki Minaj’s Instagram)

Minaj raised temperatures during her set with eye-catching hand gestures.

The former “American Idol” judge’s performance included crotch-grabbing and butt-shaking. But the coupe de grace may have been the sight of a female dancer mounting a prone Minaj. Even when Minaj switched to a more conservative black dress for her performance with Arania Grande and Jessie J on “Bang Bang,” she nearly had a major wardrobe malfunction. The rapper did manage to maintain her grip on the dress and avoid giving the national TV audience an even more explicit look at her assets. (NY Daily News)
