In early December of 2014, Bobby Shmurda was roughly six months into a contract with Epic Records and could lay claim to a top 10 single on Billboard magazine’s ‘Hot 100’ chart with his song ‘Hot Boy.’ Halfway through the final month of 2014, the rapper found himself arrested on charges of reckless endangerment, weapons possession, criminal use of drug paraphernalia, and various counts of conspiracy. The same websites that showed his music video were showing his perp walk.
In an exclusive Billboard interview from Rikers Island, where the 20-year-old is still in custody, Shmurda dismissed a few rumors and gave his thoughts on his case. The man born Ackquille Jean Pollard confirms he was not stabbed, but he does think the district attorney and the court system have it out for him.
‘Right now I think the DA and the judge and everyone in the court is being biased,’ Shmurda said, in an exclusive story reported by Ada Calhoun. ‘It’s so crazy. The favoritism, yeah. They don’t have no evidence, no nothing on me for the bill to be so high. I haven’t been out for a year, I haven’t been around for a year. So I didn’t make two million dollars!’
Shmurda’s bail was set at $2 million, and the Brooklyn-based rapper said his team was initially told they could post a bond of 10 percent. He says he and his representatives were later told they had to post collateral bail. This was compounded when the Special Prosecutor’s office reported the person putting up the rapper’s bail had since withdrawn.
