Kanye West isn’t afraid to show his emotions.
West sat down for a 45-minute interview with BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe to discuss his music and his work in fashion. (West recently debuted his collection for Adidas Originals at New York’s Fashion Week.) The last time West sat down with Lowe, the interview inspired a rather funny parody from late-night host. Jimmy Kimmel. That prompted the rapper to fire off one of his infamous all-caps Twitter rants at the late-night talk show host.
West first opened up to Lowe about the fashion industry’s reluctance to accept him as a designer. “People think that I pander to fashion,” he said. “I believe that the world can only be saved through design.”
West also described the notion of “exclusivity” in fashion in a eyebrow-raising new way. “Exclusivity is the new n-word, because nothing should be exclusive,” he said. “Everybody should have the opportunity to drink from the same fountain. “I did not know how to communicate,” he said. “I had my point. My message was: ‘Your egg. My semen. We’re gonna change the world.'”
While he might have become more self-reflective in his approach, don’t expect a brand new Kanye just yet.
“I didn’t come here to be liked,” West said. “I came here to make a difference. Everyone I meet I’m extremely nice. But as soon as people start playing games, I stop. At any moment I can hit that ‘Ye’ button and we can go right back to day one…
