Every sneaker release tells a story but the narrative is even clearer when it comes to retros considering they have historical context on their side. Nike takes a second to put a piece of Michael Jordan’s history into perspective with this Air Jordan 1 colorway, which tells the tale of a shattered backboard during a game in Trieste, Italy.

The story goes that in a Nike-sponsored exhibition game, MJ shattered a backboard after dunking from the free throw line right after his rookie season. The shoe pays homage to this moment in time by assuming an orange, black and white colorway that would have matched his then-uniform as well as an insole depicting a basketball rim and broken glass.

It’s still unknown exactly when these will drop, but hopefully it will be soon. Until then, we’ll just have to enjoy these images courtesy of Marquee Sole. The pair is far from BRED but they could certainly scratch that itch if you need something with a slightly similar feel.
