ABC local news affiliate KTRK reports the terrifying story of a Black boy who was kidnapped from his bus stop in East Houston, Tex. on Monday afternoon. According to the news outlet, 13-year-old Zavion Parker was approached by five teenage boys and forced into a four-door vehicle after exiting his school bus. The teens were reportedly accompanied by a heavy built white adult male driver with orange hair and a racist tattoo that read, “I hate Black people.” They then took the sixth grader to an abandoned building where he was assaulted and stripped of his jacket, shoes, phone and keys.

His mother, Michelle Lee, began receiving threatening text messages, including one that read, “We’re going to hang him. You’re going to find him in the morning.” She immediately called the police to file a report. Fortunately, as officers were gathering information, Parker was able to escape.

Witness Camecia Carmouche described seeing Parker running near a local YMCA with a torn shirt and no shoes before she also called the police. Parker’s mother believes that, because of the tattoo on the man’s arm, her son was racially targeted. “He said the reason why they got him because they said he was black, he deserved to die,” she said.

During an interview with reporters, Carmouche added that Parker—whose face was “puffed up” and “had scratches”—told her he saw bodies of other Black men and boys in the shack where he was held.

Investigators have since been to the shack, where they found shell casings, a wooden chair, and various weapons. Parker has been “checked out” and is reportedly “doing better,” says KTRK, but his attackers are still out there.

Parker’s mother is now working to get them apprehended.
