“I was pretty much doing way too many shows, not taking care of myself,” he said. “I was drinking so much liquor. Smoking so much weed. Just one night at a show in New York, I literally passed out and fell off the stage [in 2014].”
“I literally had an endless supply of Percs,” he shared. “If you asked my brother, anybody … I’m like, raining Percs. Off my body, off my house. I was literally raining pills like Skittles.”
August reached out to Pinkett Smith and husband Will Smith to get clean. Although he wouldn’t share exactly how many pills a day he would take, Pinkett Smith recalled the number to be around six. He also says he felt conflicted with his pill usage because they were prescribed by a healthcare professional.
“I was on tour or something and you [Pinkett Smith] called me and you literally broke down about it,” Alsina said.
“That was the thing. To feel your emotion and to hear you bawling. That was a reality check for me. I was like, ‘Wow, if someone else can love you that much that it hurts them, why doesn’t it bother you that you are actually hurting yourself?’ That moment really changed the trajectory of my life.”
Alsina said the decision to quit using Percocet happened quickly. He said he didn’t enter rehab, but stayed home until he was better — although he compared withdrawal to being hit by a bus, according to Page Six.
