J.R. Smith’s offseason has been relatively quiet since his NBA Finals gaffe that some could argue doomed the Cleveland Cavaliers. Well, that was until today when news broke of the Cavs shooting guard being sought out by the NYPD for allegedly stealing and throwing a fan’s cell phone.
Apparently, these two fans didn’t know J.R. Smith doesn’t like his picture taken without his permission. While in front of a Chelsea, NYC hotspot, the Cleveland Cavaliers player took a fan’s cell phone and chucked into a construction site after a photo of him was snapped. The phone belonged to Twitter user @kobigavis, and the incident was broken down with a series of tweets supplied by his friend @_the_godfather which place Smith at the scene.

Smith allegedly turned the fan down — telling him no photos — but he snapped one anyway … and Smith snapped too,” reported TMZ.
This latest incident marks the second time Smith has gotten into it with a fan. During a stint with the New York Knicks back in 2015, Smith was accused of putting the Henny hands on a heckler in front of an NY pizza shop. Prosecutors subsequently decided not to continue with pressing charges on Smith. So let this be a lesson from now on— if you see Smith out in these streets don’t even think of taking a picture of him without his permission.
