New Year’s Day is the second deadliest driving day of the year.

Lyft and the Cleveland Police Foundation are teaming up to help make New Year’s Eve a little safer, donating $10,000 in free ride credits for people looking to get home after a night on the town.

Officers will hand out $10 ride promo cards on New Year’s Eve around East 4th St., West 6th St., The Flats, and West 25th St., where people will surely be partying to help ring in 2019. Each card will be good for Monday night or Tuesday morning.

Jay Dumaswala, Market Manager of Lyft Cleveland, issued the following statement:

“Lyft is excited to work in conjunction with The Cleveland Police Foundation and Cleveland Division of Police to provide reliable and affordable rides on New Year’s Eve around downtown. As part of our Ride Smart initiative, it’s our goal to help riders celebrate responsibly and take away the worry in how they’ll get home afterwards.”

Additionally, the Twitter and Facebook pages of both the Cleveland Division of Police and the Cleveland Police Foundation will also release promo codes for $5 off rides. This will be done in the days leading up to New Year’s.
