March is Women’s History Month and we’re celebrating 31 different women over the month, spanning the worlds of entertainment, politics, local, global and beyond. Entry number 13 on our list may seem like your homegirl or your best friend, only if that best friend could tell you about all of the foul things going on in Washington and elsewhere while ALSO helping the community at the same time. From being a CNN and NPR political analyst to an inspiration for brown girls all over the world, this particular entry doesn’t need much of an introduction but we’re going to give her a fire one anyway. Meet Angela Rye, queen of political clawbacks and one of our 31 inspiring women.

The world of cable news may not have met someone like Angela Rye before. Not as an opinionated black woman who reacts non-verbally and verbally to every piece of idiocy she may hear from someone else on a panel, whether it be in regards to race, policy or just common sense. The University of Washington law school graduate rose to prominence as a legislative advocate at the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education, an arm aimed to protect America’s 120 HBCUs.

Soon after she co-founded IMPACT, an organization seeking to help address young professionals and their advancement in economic empowerment, civic engagement and political involvement. Not long after that CNN came calling, giving way to numerous GIFs, reaction videos and numerous moments where Twitter and beyond had Rye’s back.

Plus, she may be the only political pundit in America who has her own playlist on TIDAL. You can catch Angela hosting numerous shows on BET such as Angela Rye’s State of the Union and her involvement with BET’s latest docuseries inspecting various inequalities in black communities across the country, Finding Justice.

FUN FACT: She was named after Black Panther Party member Angela Davis. To Rye, it felt like a “purposeful, beckoning call to engage in strategic resistance and to fight for the oppressed.”

QUOTE: “If our culture is so often readily and easily appropriated, imagine what happens when we embrace our full blackness and know that our contributions are just as important to the shaping of the country and, more broadly, the world.”

The world is a better place thanks to women like Angela Rye and if you want your world to be better and be free from painful fibroids, head to AlateHealth.
