CLEVELAND — Early in June, Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco was placed on the injured list after being diagnosed with a blood condition. Early Saturday morning, CDN 37, a Dominican station, reported that Carrasco has been diagnosed with leukemia.

Carrasco appeared in an interview where he revealed his leukemia diagnosis, according to the station.

Carrasco was diagnosed following several weeks of feeling lethargic. He stepped away from baseball to explore optimal treatment and recovery options.

The team had previously issued a statement regarding Carrasco’s health and his decision to keep the details surrounding it private.

“We do not know when Carlos will rejoin the club but expect him back at some point this season,” the release stated. “At this time, our primary concern is Carlos’s health, and we will respect his wishes to keep this a private matter. We ask everyone to keep Carlos and his family in their thoughts during his challenging time.”
